Submarine Aircraft Carrier by PrinzEugn Submarine Aircraft Carrier by PrinzEugn
A Boss for our game, which in scale to the other things in game, is huge. It will be able to launch aircraft and has gatling cannons for self-defence.

It's an original design, hurray!

It actually was done using a combination of MSpaint and Corel Photo-Paint. Most of everything is hardcore paint, but it's blended more in Corel

That's a pretty tight looking sub, I like it alot.

Dose it have any official designation or is it just some sort unnamed boss? I'm also curious as to what inspired the concept and design.

Ummm... VTOL? Hadn't thought about it too much, the idea for this design was as a "boss" in a game, so the idea was the player would shoot all the aircraft down anyway so that tiny point could remain unexplained, ha.

Its cool looking, a combination of aircraft carrier, and submarine. Actually the design might work if you can understand the internal workings.

Aircraft carried in the usual manner demanded an hangar completelly watertight, so maybe something small and narrow.
Maybe aircrafts can be stored like ballistic missiles, in watertight silos ready for launch with assisted rocket and folding wings, like a cruise missile.
Landing can, otherwise, be done in the usual Harrier mode (tilting jets or rotating nozzles). Then, a gantry can re-store the surviving crafts in the silos or repair the damaged ones in a two or three airplane capacity internal watertight workshop.

I think we were thinking about a design for a game we were working on, trying to come up with a boss. We thought about an aircraft carrier, and we were going to have a submarine in another mission, and it suddenly struck us: "aircraft carrier-submarine? Awesome!"
And I played Ace Combat 5, and saw some of Macross 0, and now we feel less original than we did before...

From what I can tell, all the other designs, including the Ohio-class subs that launch UAVs, are all tube-launched. Your's is the first that I've seen with a standard catapult system.

well, it's supposed to have an elevator forward of the bridge, which you can kind of see(the square-jagged thing) on the flight deck.
Realism was not the top priority :D

As a suggestion, coming from someone who's spoken extensively with an ex-U.S. Navy sub-tracker, I would try to find some way for that thing to defend itself with more than piddly gatling cannons. I'm an author myself, and have come up with similar ideas that, as soon as they are posed to actual military figures, are shown to be utterly defenseless in ways I didn't think of. Case in point: what happens when that big, expensive monstrosity gets sunk by a single high-explosive torpedo fired from a jet miles upon miles out of gatling range? Not to sound nagging; just trying to help you get around realism snags.

I played that, but I think it may have been after coming up with this thing. I don't really remember very well, but Ace Combat has been a point of inspiration since I played it(I only ever beat AC 0:Belkan War) It's been almost frustrating since if they have the same awesome idea, we feel kinda bad about using it.
